8,306 Sams Clubs to Close

Bentonville, AR Sam's Clubs in the USA, Mexico, Canada and Asia are closing their doors as of 12:01 AM (GMT) on February 1st, 2009 by Executive order of President Barack Obama, the Supreme Court has confirmed.

The Bentonville, Arkansas-based store chain was threatened with an African American boycott Thursday, led personally by Michelle Obama, the President's wife. It all started as a young black employee, Shane Rhiles was told on Monday to remove his Obama T-shirt, or go home. Mr. Rhiles is homeless, and began to cry.

A Florida lawmaker happened by, asked what was the problem, flipped his cell phone open, called the White House, and 14 minutes later, Sam's Club declared via webinar to Investment Bankers in New York, London and Hong Kong that the Stores would all close.

"The people elected me for change, and damn it, I meant it!" Obama said, as he prepared to address the American Psychological Association Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland.

The groups theme for their 2009 Conference is, "Patience in Leaders ~ Making Change Work."
